Edmonds firefighters called to assist with early morning Shoreline fire

Edmonds firefighters were called to assist with a major fire that destroyed N.W. Discount World near Aurora Avenue North and North 170th St. early this morning, according to several local reports. Edmonds commuters planning to drive southbound on Aurora Avenue this morning should plan alternate routes as that part of the highway is likely to remain closed this morning.

About a dozen fire engines from several nearby departments were called in to assist the Shoreline Fire Department in battling the blaze, and Aurora Avenue was closed to non-emergency vehicles starting just after midnight. The fire was put out by 5 a.m., the Seattle Times said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, including the possibility of arson. Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood has been hit by a string of arsons since early summer.
