Interested in serving on City Council? Apply by 4:30 p.m. Thursday

The deadline is 4:30 p.m. New Year’s Eve for applying to fill the Edmonds City Council seat vacated by the death of Councilmember Peggy Pritchard Olson.

Application forms are available in the Office of the City Clerk, 121 5th Ave. N., first floor, Edmonds. The form can also be obtained online. Some familiar names are among the candidates who so far have returned their applications to the City Clerk: Diane Buckshnis, who lost a close race to incumbent Strom Peterson in the November general election; Lora Petso, who sat on the council from 2000-2004 and lost in the November election to Adrienne Fraley-Monillas; and outgoing Councilmember Ron Wambolt, who lost to both Petso and Fraley-Monillas in the primary election last August.

The City of Edmonds is a Mayor/Council form of government with regularly scheduled Council meetings on Tuesday evenings. Councilmembers are elected for seven at-large positions and represent all citizens. The monthly salary is $600 per month, plus $50 per meeting to a maximum of eight meetings per month, or $1,000 total.

Candidate interviews are scheduled on Tuesday, Jan. 12 and nominations will be considered at the regular Council meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 19. For additional information, call the Edmonds City Clerk at 425-771-0245 or 425-775-2525.
