Westgate Elementary parents launch fundraiser for new playground

The playground at Westgate Elementary in Edmonds is in serious need of a facelift. The equipment — some of it dating to when the school was built in 1958 — is rusted, dangerous and needs to be replaced. A group of parents has started a fundraising effort, with the goal of raising $90,000, and plan to break ground to build a new playground this summer. Donations are accepted via Paypal or check at http://www.westgatepso.org/donate
The group is also hosting a spring fundraising campaign with events on the following dates:
March 12: School Bingo/Auction at the school gym from 6-8 p.m.
April 29: Family Fun Run at the school
April 30: Westgate Walk, which is a PSO general budget fundraiser; however all dollars raised over the school’s goal will go toward the playground.
May 15: Wine/Dessert tasting at Edmonds Senior Center.
In-kind donations are needed once construction starts, including tree cutting, dumpster, refreshments, etc. Volunteers will also be needed for a variety of demolition and building tasks.
