Edmonds named a “Best Community for Music Education”

The NAMM Foundation, a non-profit organization working to advance active participation in music, recently recognized the Edmonds School District in its 11th annual “Best Communities for Music Education” survey.

Edmonds is one of only three districts in Washington state that received this honor, which acknowledges schools and districts across the U.S. The districts were measured across curricular and programmatic criteria as well as public support of their music programs.

The community is invited to see the Everett Youth Symphony Orchestra perform with more than 200 Edmonds School District elementary and middle schools singers on Sunday, May 16 at 2 p.m. at Benaroya Hall.  Admission to this event is free, but tickets are required.  For ticket information, please visit ticketorder.everettyouthsymphony.org.

  1. Congratulations to the staff, families, and kids of Edmonds School District! The dedication and talent on display by the kids in our community is astounding, and will serve them well in the future. In some communities, funding music programs is considered an “extra”, but the people of Edmonds have seen, first hand, the wide-ranging benefits of music.
    – Next time you hear of an event with our kids performing their music, make it a point to stop by, give a listen, and you’ll be duly impressed.

  2. My older son has been in the Edmionds music program since grade school; he plays the trombone. I have been very pleased with the quality of Edmonds music teachers — especially Ms. Kate Labiak and Mr. Jake Bergevin. Also, a big round of applause to the MUSIC Booster Parents who work tirelessly to make sure that all kids are able to participate. CONGRATS, EDMONDS!
