Informational meeting Tuesday on supplemental Edmonds schools levy

The Edmonds School District will host an informational meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 22 about the supplemental levy that will appear on the Aug. 17 ballot. The meeting will be in the Boardroom of the Educational Service Center, 20420 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood.

Interested community members are invited to attend and learn more about the measure, which will appear on the Aug. 17 ballot.  Information can also be viewed on the district website.

If approved by voters, the supplemental levy would provide additional general fund dollars that the school district can use to support general fund expenditures. It would add an additional 31 cents per thousand to the current projected total propery tax rate for 2011, making the total rate per $1,000 of assessed valuation $3.55 compared to $3.24. Even so, the district says, Edmonds would remain among the lowest total rates in the area. For example, in 2009 Snohomish, Shoreline and Marysville all had total rates at or exceeding $4.50 per $1,000 and Federal Way and Everett are above $4.
