Gourmet cupcakes coming to Edmonds Thursday

Starting Thursday, luscious gourmet cupcakes will be available in downtown Edmonds courtesy of Stefanie Buono, owner of Frosted Cupcakes & Cakes.

Buono will be selling four different flavors of cupcakes Thursday-Sunday and all of them are listed on her website. She will also take special orders for custom-designed and baked cakes for all occasions — all at a counter inside of Nama’s Candy Store at 102 5th Ave. N.

Flavors range from the traditional chocolate and vanilla to espresso chip and caramel apple — and of course the all-time favorite of gourmet cupcake aficionados: red velvet.

Baking “has always been an interest of mine,” Buono said, starting with many childhood hours spent in the kitchen with her mother. The Edmonds-Woodway High School graduate polished her baking skills while working with Michael Young, owner of Olives Cafe & Wine Bar and Our Table is Ready catering.

“I started baking cakes for family, and then their friends, and it snowballed slowly over the years,” she said.  “You can be so creative with cake and cupcakes and the different flavors. I love what I’m going right now. I’m excited to get started.”

In addition to providing full-size cupcakes for $3 and mini-cupcakes ones by special order, Buono also designs cakes for weddings, birthdays, baby showers and other events. Samples of her work are available at cakesbyfrosted.com, and you can place an order online, via phone at 425-275-7330, or in person at Nama’s.

Hours for Frosted are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 12:30-4:30 pm. Sunday.

Great news. It’ll be nice to not have to travel to U Village or Wallingford to get delicious specialty cupcakes.

Oh great….my kids will be in there 5 days a week instead of 3! Great idea and looking forward to “sampling”!
