Are you an Edmonds resident with a passion for the arts and a willingness to volunteer your time on a working board? The City of Edmonds Arts Commission is seeking applicants to serve a four-year term.

The Arts Commission is made up of seven Edmonds residents who serve staggered four-year terms.  By ordinance, four of these positions must be filled by people professionally engaged in the arts.  This opening is for a person with experience and interest in the literary, visual or performing arts, but it does not require professional experience in the arts.

Established in 1975, the Commission is charged by City Ordinance with “promoting the arts as an integral part of the community.”  This is accomplished by presenting programs that enrich the community; providing information and exhibit space for area artists; providing technical assistance and tourism promotion awards to local arts organizations; and awarding scholarships to Edmonds students pursuing higher education in the performing and literary arts.  Arts Commission programs include Public Art, three rotating art exhibit areas, Summer Concerts in the Park, the annual 2-day Write on the Sound  Writers’ Conference, and special opportunities in the arts for youth.

Applicants are interviewed by the EAC Nominations Committee and appointed by the Mayor and Council.  Attendance is required at monthly meetings (first Monday of the month at 6 p.m.) and each Commissioner has at least one area of program responsibility.  An average time commitment of four to eight hours per month is standard for most Commissioners.  An individual desiring this appointment must be willing to invest the time that is required and must be a resident of Edmonds.

Teamwork and collaboration are essential for effective participation on the Commission.  Applicant resumes should demonstrate leadership skills and a strong commitment to the arts and the community.  For a position description and other information call 425-771-0228 or e-mail:  gillespie@ci.edmonds.wa.us

Applicants should submit a resume and letter of interest to: EAC Nominations, 700 Main St., Edmonds WA 98020.  The deadline for applications is Monday, Dec. 6 at 5 p.m.
