Edmonds-Woodway’s boys and girl basketball teams earned victories Friday, with the boys scoring an 88-79 non-league victory over Sultan and the girls defeating Southridge of Beaverton, Ore., 63-52 in the Nike Northwest Invitational.
Josh Jordan scored a game-high 36 points to lead Edmonds-Woodway to a nonconference win.
On the girls’ side, Angela Woods scored 21 — including 11 in the first quarter — to lead the Lady Warriors over Southridge in the consolation round of the Nike tournament (the Warriors lost their tourney opening game Thursday — 63-52 — against Clackamas). Madeline Kasper contributed 11 points and Ashley Albertson added 10 for the Warriors.
Next up for the E-W girls at 4:45 p.m. today is defending Washington 4A champs Auburn Riverside, and it will be rematch of sorts for the Warriors. Auburn Riverside was Edmond-Woodway’s first opponent in last year’ state tournament, and the team’s only loss — after losing to the Ravens, the Warriors went undefeated to take fifth place at state.
