Margreet Barhoum demonstrated why she’s one of the 3A league’s leading scorers as the Lady Mavericks downed Oak Harbor 65-53 on Meadowdale’s home court Friday night.
Barhoum set the tone early for the playoff-bound Mavs with a 3-pointer to start the contest, and from there Meadowdale never trailed. 4’ 10’’ senior Janelle Yoshimoto of the Wildcats was a constant threat on the breakaways, while Barhoum would take the ball down the court and pass it to Mackenzie Bretz or Bianca Landa. This game was also physical, with nine fouls in the first quarter — five for the Mavs and four for they Cats. The Mavs were up 13-11 at the end of the first and 32-23 at halftime.
Oak Harbor was able to close the gap to five points in the third quarter, and trailed by 44-39 going into the fourth. But a key 10-0 run by Meadowdale put the game out of reach in the final period, during which Barhoum not only continued to run up the scoresheet, but also ran over Yoshimoto, earning an offensive foul in the process.
The next home game for the Lady Mavs is Monday, Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m. on Senior Night vs. Mountlake Terrace, and the final regular season game is at Shorewood on Feb. 2, also at 7:30.
Meadowdale scoring: Lindsay Hatch 4, Margreet Barhoum 31, Bianca Landa 7, Katie Rickel 3, Alyssa Reuble 5, Michaela O’Neil 4, Julianne Kossian 3, Mackenzie Bretz 6, Ndey Sonko 2
