Car driven by Edmonds man strikes woman on Highway 99 early Saturday

An unidentified woman is in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center after she was struck by a car early Saturday morning on Highway 99 and 148th Street, the Washington State Patrol said. The driver was identified as a 36-year-old Edmonds man.

According to the State Patrol, the victim was struck in the inside lane of Highway 99 as she was walking across the road at 2 a.m. Saturday, and both the victim and the vehicle ended up in the center lane.

The case is still under investigation, and no decision has been made yet on whether to file charges, said WSP Trooper Keith Leary.

    1. All hospitals have very strict privacy laws and won’t release the condition of anyone without their family’s or their own permission. I contacted the Washington State Patrol media person, who said he would try to get information tomorrow.

    1. The Washington State Patrol spokesperson told me today that he spoke yesterday with the victim’s aunt, and was told that she is in a coma at Harborview.

      1. We received this comment yesterday from the victim’s aunt.
        Hello Carmen,
I would like to clarify my Aunts condition, she’s in a medically induced coma. She has quite a few injuries and broken bones but the medical team is confident she will survive. On behalf of my Aunt and family we really thank you for being there and caring enough to help. We weren’t sure if she was just left or by herself and it truly helps to know she wasn’t. Were you there at the time of the accident or just came upon the scene? Again, we can’t thank you enough.

  1. Too many people cross 99 in that long stretch w/o lights, controlled crossings or anyother safe way of getting from one side to the other. I see this often, especially at night. There’s a recent pattern of such unfortunate incidents and folks should call our local state representatives to get funding to build a pedestrian overpass in the middle of this dangerous portion of 99.

  2. Teresa thank you so much for your help. Is there anyway you have an email address or phone number to contact the aunt? You can look me up on facebook if you want to message me there.
