Margreet Barhoum scored 25 points and Mackenzie Bretz added 10 as the Lady Mavericks took a step closer to a state playoff berth at home Wednesday night.
Both teams played a competitive first quarter. The Cubs got six offensive rebounds and it seemed as though Brittany Grandy and Meriel McCoy were everywhere. On the Mavs side, aggressive defense kept them in it early on, as they got six breakaway points on three straight steals and took a 15-14 lead into the second.
In the second period, Meadowdale was down three points early but pulled away on a 17-3 run and had a 35-20 lead at the half.
In the third, the Mavs outscored the Cubs 19-4 and were up 56-32. The domination continued in the fourth, and Meadowdale won 79-44.
The Lady Mavs will play again on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Shorecrest. A win will clinch a state playoff spot. The Meadowdale boys, meanwhile, will play Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Stable, vs. Sedro-Woolley.
