The Meadowdale Maverick boys ended their basketball season with a 56-49 District 1 tournament loss to Mountlake Terrace Saturday night.
The first half put the Mavs in a hole they could not climb out of. In the first quarter, Mountlake Terrace’s Martinez Johnson had six points and distributed well, helping the Hawks mount a 16-8 lead.
In the second, Meadowdale played better and pulled closer but couldn’t get close enough, thanks in part to 22 percent three-point shooting. Every time the Mavs thought they were getting momentum, they lost it it, and they were down 25-18 at the half.
The third period started with Meadowdale’s Dylan Buck scoring nine points, but the Hawks never gave the Mavs an inch and the score was 39-31 at the end of the quarter.
In the fourth, Meadowdale forced turnovers and came within four points several times as the Mavs’ scoring started to heat up, including an amazing alley-oop from Torin Dooley to Tyce Tallman. But the Hawks finally put the Mavericks away and will move on to the state 3A tournament.
It also was the final game for Meadowdale’s seniors: Tyce Tallman, Dylan Buck, Sean Hennesey, Sam Hong, Tanner Mahler and Aaron Feldhaus.
Meadowdale scoring: Spencer Linton 5, Matt Hirsch 2, Tyce Tallman 10, Sean Hennesey 7, Torin Dooley 12, Dylan Buck 13
