Backup buses in use again on Edmonds-Seattle Sounder train route Friday

Updated with evening commute bus schedule:

A mudslide again has canceled Seattle-Edmonds Northline Sounder service and backup buses will be used Friday.

Friday afternoon commuters should board regularly scheduled Community Transit Route 416 at 5th and James at 3:56 p.m., 4:27 p.m., 4:58 p.m., 5:28 p.m. and 5:57 p.m.

In an unrelated news release issued Thursday, Sound Transit also noted that the Edmonds Sounder Station’s south parking lot will soon be ready for commuters.  Crews completed the first layer of asphalt paving and may be able to finish paving this week or next week if weather permits.  Once paving is completed, the parking lot will be ready for striping and lighting.  With good working conditions, the south parking lot could open during the last week of March, Sound Transit said.

This week, crews have been paving the parking area and finishing the last passenger shelter. Next week, some lighting will be installed in the south parking lot and the construction trailers will be moved to the area adjacent to the Amtrak Depot. Several parking stalls will need to be blocked off so equipment can access the trailers and move them.

As soon as the south parking lot opens, the temporary north parking area will close and crews will be ready to start work on the new bus transit center including passenger shelters, bus driveway, layover space and commuter parking.
