The City of Edmonds Finance Department has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report. According to a news release issued by the city, the certificate was awarded for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2009, and it’s the 24th time the city received the award.
“I’m proud of our finance department and the fact that they are continually recognized for their outstanding work,” said Edmonds Mayor Mike Cooper.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and the determination is made by an impartial panel to ensure that awardees meet program standards. The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals.
