The birthday of Dr. Seuss on Wednesday, March 2, also marks Read Across America Day, a nationwide reading celebration that encourages schools, libraries, and community centers to participate by bringing together children, teenagers, and books. So it’s only appropriate that the Edmonds School District has a literacy focus this week.
Students and staff districtwide will celebrate the love of reading both on Wednesday and throughout the week, in a variety of ways.
– Wednesday. From 12-1 p.m., the Superintendent’s Roundtable with Dr. Nick Brossoit will focus on “Teaching Reading and Writing — Our New Literacy Adoption” at the district’s Educational Service Center, 20420 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood. Also the Edmonds Education Association is sponsoring a door-decorating contest around Dr. Seuss-related themes at elementary schools.
– This weekend, high school students, staff, parents, and community members will participate in the Rock ‘n Read Marathon, hosted at Edmonds Bookshop, in which volunteers will take shifts to read in the window of the bookshop, covering a 55-hour span.
