Mayor Mike Cooper announced via Facebook last night that he is proclaiming Thursday, March 10, Edmonds-Woodway Warrior Wrestling Day in the City of Edmonds.
At the state 4A Mat Classic tournament Feb. 18-19, the team finished eighth in the scoring — the highest finish ever for an E-W wrestling team, and Ryan DeWeese became the school’s first-ever state wresting champion, finishing first in the 130-pound weight class. In addition, Mac Hutchison took second in 140 pounds, Andrew Vulliet finished third at 112 and Matthew Cuzzetto took eighth place at 112 pounds.
Other state participants include John Kim at 160, Zack Perez at 171 and Noach Cuzzetto at 103.
“Congrats Warriors on a great season, the highest team finish and the first individual champ in school history,” Cooper said.
