Fresh from its Carnegie Hall performance of composer Karl Jenkins’ soaring work Gloria, the Sno-King Community Chorale, under the direction of Frank DeMiero, will present the West Coast premiere of the piece as part of its annual Musica da Coro concert, Saturday, March 19, 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6215 – 196th St, Lynnwood. Joining the singers will be the Sno-King Community Chorale Orchestra and soloists.
An abiding theme in much of Jenkins’ music is world peace and unity. In addition to the Latin text, the composer has included. readings from Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Islam, signifying the unifying feature of all world religions – a personal and loving God.
“This has been an exciting work for our chorale to perform,” says music director DeMiero, “and we are especially honored that Karl Jenkins asked our chorale to present it for the first time on the West Coast. Being a part of its U.S. premiere in New York was an unforgettable experience and we were really excited to receive a standing ovation from some 2,500 concertgoers. We hope we can sell out our concerts at Trinity Lutheran Church as well!”
Also on the March 19 program will be a specially commissioned work by renowned composer John Rutter, which the chorale is dedicating to the memory of Ed Aliverti; “Nella Fantasia,” a song made popular by Il Divo; “Breath of Heaven,” by Chris Eaton and Amy Grant; and two selections for women’s and men’s choruses.
