Congratulations to Edmonds teachers Jake Bergevin and Karen Helseth, who were both accepted to participate in programs through the National Endowment for the Humanities this summer.

Bergevin will attend a workshop titled “Duke Ellington and the Development of American Popular Culture” in New York City. Helseth will participate in the “From the Sock Hop to the Loft: Jazz, Motown, and the Transformation of American Culture, 1959-1975” program in St. Louis. Bergevin teaches band at Edmonds-Woodway High, and directs the school’s jazz band, which has made several past trips to the Essentially Ellington Jazz Festival in New York City. Helseth teaches orchestra at EWHS, Chase Lake and College Place elementary schools.
