My Edmonds Food: Farmers Market arrives next weekend and Romio’s becomes Kebella’s

    The Farmers Market is almost here!

    If you are a gardener, a “locavore”, or a lover of fruits and vegetables, you have probably been waiting with great anticipation for the first day of the Edmonds farmers market. You will be very glad to know that you only have a few more days to wait!

    The first day of the 17th annual Edmonds Museum Garden Market is Saturday, May 7, in the Public Safety complex parking lot at 5th and Bell. You can look forward to browsing early locally grown vegetables, plant starts and yard art. The market will take place every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    The Edmonds Museum Garden Market is the precursor to the 120-plus vendor Edmonds Museum Summer Market, which starts on June 2 and runs every Saturday through October 1. See you there!

    Romio’s is changing to Kebella’s

    Owner Peter Stratiev has been making his own fresh dough and sauces from scratch for the last three years at his Romio’s pizza house in Edmonds. Now, he is looking forward to more creative freedom as his pizza restaurant changes from franchise to his own independently owned restaurant. He is changing the name to Kebella’s and although much of the menu will stay the same, he is adding two new subs and two new pizzas featuring proscuitto.

    This change came about due to the financial troubles of the Romio’s chain, but Stratiev stresses that this is a change for the good. His prices and the menu items that his customers love are not going to change, although he is dreaming about future improvements, including the possibility of catering. “With 20 years of restaurant experience, I now have the freedom to create my own pizzas,” he said.

    Stratiev has branched away from the traditional to offer gluten-free pizzas and he says they seem to be a hit. He is looking forward to the party season — sports team celebrations, birthdays, family events — in his banquet room. “Be sure to tell people that the banquet room is free to reserve,” he says. “I try to support this town because they support me.”

    Romios, at 630 Edmonds Way, will change to Kebella’s Pizza and Pasta on May 1. The new website, where customers can place orders for delivery or pick up, will be www.kebellaspizza.com. Phone is 425-744-0284

    May 3rd Long Shadows Wine dinner at Epulo

    Epuo Bistro is offering another wine makers dinner on Tuesday, May 3, featuring wines from Washington Vinter, Long Shadows. The five-course prix-fix dinner will offer such promising menu items as an heirloom tomato and Dungeness crab gazpacho paired with Poet’s Leap Riesling, and a house-smoked duck breast and fava bean risotto paired with Chester Kidder 2004 Red Bordeaux and Syrah blend.

    The prix-fix dinner is $98 per person including wine, plus tax and gratuity. Reservations can be made by calling Epulo at 425-678-8680. Epulo Bistro is located at 526 Main Street.
