Edmonds police arrested a 58-year-old Edmonds man Saturday night after he attacked his roommate with a machete in the 23400 block of 78th Avenue West.
Police officers dispatched to a domestic disturbance in the area at 10:18 p.m. and observed a 24-year old Edmonds man running northbound on 78th Avenue West. The man was barefoot, yelling for help and described as “terrified.” He informed the officers that his roommate attacked him with a machete during an argument that occurred inside their home.
When the victim attempted to flee, the roommate used the machete to strike him on the upper left arm and across his back, resulting in “lacerations to both body parts,” police said.
A witness informed officers that the suspect was still inside the residence armed with the machete and intoxicated. As police neared the entrance of the home, a man matching the suspect’s description exited carrying what was later found to be an alcoholic drink. The man was taken into custody without incident.
Inside the home, police recovered the weapon — with a 22-and-a-half-inch blade — used during the assault. The suspect was arrested and booked into jail for first-degree assault.
