Java Juggs baristas arrested for exposing themselves to customers

Edmonds police have arrested three baristas and the owner of the Java Juggs espresso stand on Highway 99 on charges including prostitution and illegal exposure.

According to Sgt Don Anderson, police launched an investigation into potential illegal activities at the espresso stand, located at the southwest corner of Highway 99 and 212th Street Southwest in Edmonds, after receiving numerous citizen complaints about baristas exposing themselves to customers.  The investigation ended last week with the arrest of three baristas and the business owner, Anderson said.

Edmonds police officers working in plain clothes and posing as customers obtained video evidence of several violations during the course of this investigation.  Most of the violations involved employees exposing themselves to customers for large tips, but also included physical contact with the barista in exchange for money. The investigation revealed that the business owner, a 49-year-old Snohomish resident who owns three Java Juggs espresso stands in Edmonds and South Everett, was also involved in these activities.

The stand owner was arrested and booked on June 30 on three counts of prostitution and one count of permitting prostitution.  Three additional employees who were not physically arrested will be facing charges as well, Anderson said.

Edmonds police are working with the Snohomish County Health Department and the City of Edmonds Code Enforcement Office to address any other business licensing or code enforcement issues that may be associated with the business as it continues to operate, he said.

  1. According to several other news sources, the police investigation was launched in October. That’s right, 9 months ago. I appreciate that the police need to be thorough, but if people are reporting unasked for (I presume) exposure, how long could it reasonably take to catch them doing it? I would sure like an explanation from the police department.

  2. The funny thing is, if the girls just go on a “date” with these guys, they can expose themselves and be touched all they want.

THANK YOU moral authority for keeping us safe from our bodies.

  3. Joe:
When I asked him about it today, Edmonds PD Sgt. Don Anderson offered some perspective regarding the concept of a “nine-month investigation.” Here’s his comment:
“That was not really an accurate reflection of the investigative time-line. The actual investigation (an officer in plain clothes going to the business for the first time) didn’t begin until the middle of April. The investigation was conducted by a plain clothes street crimes investigation unit who were working on several matters at the same time. This wasn’t their only on-going investigation or their only priority but enough complaints came in from the community that it was obvious we had an obligation to investigate. Their other duties, combined with the fact that this matter involved three different businesses, several different employees and required a significant level of evidence to support prosecution, is the reason that this investigation took as long as it did.”

  4. Maybe the council needs to pass an something to where the girls have to wear clothes not bathing suits in these places, I was told that the other shops in south everett are even worse. I don’t understand it if I owned one of those coffee shops I would want athletic looking women with clothes and every customer. The one I go to off 196th and 99 across from budget battery near James village does a great business the girls wear jeans and everybody goes there. As far as the Police taking too long well from what I watched on tv this week with the tot mom the police can take as long as they want. Point being if somebody is doing something wrong and it takes sometime to make a case take the time and make the case.

  5. That’s a reasonable explanation. Thanks for following up on this, Teresa.

I’ve never been interested in patronizing the place, but it never really bothered me, either. It still seems pretty harmless to me. It doesn’t take much to get some people riled up.

  6. Whats the line from the movie “ROADHOUSE” Its time to take out the garbage. I can’t walk down the street and expose myself why should the girls be able to , that coffeestand wasn’t making it doing things right the location sucks,. A good coffee stand in a good location can make a lot of money and the girls do just fine with the tips.

  7. Nike, you can walk down the street topless and not get arrested. It’s a double standard for women. But, that is not the issue being discussed here. The issue here is whether individuals in a private establishment display their body parts. I would say yes. If you don’t like it, then don’t go there. I’m with Mr. Wang on this one.

  8. Mike. Sorry for my typo re your name above. I was obviously thinking of you as the God Nike at the time I was typing the above.

  9. Priya whatever, I would suggest you read the laws on taking your clothes off and walking down the street,or exposing yourself in public for that matter ,some of the things you say make me really wonder.

  10. Mike, I did not say you could take your clothes off and walk down the street. i said that a man can walk down the street without a shirt and not be arrested. Exposure is a totally different subject. And, I would argue that taking being naked in the confines of your own home is equivalent to being naked in a coffee stand. I walk around naked in my condo all of the time. Sometimes, even with the blinds up. I am pretty sure I can’t be arrested for that. ANd, if I can, I’ll be waiting naked for the Edmonds Police Department to pick me up!

  11. From what I was told hence heresay they the girls were exposing private parts when I talked exposing myself I wasn’t talking about taking my shirtoff this whole conversation is stupid and I’m done, just call the cops they will tell you what the law is.

  12. I just called the cops and you can be arrested if naked in your house and neighbors complain” indecent exposure”. Thank you very much now I’m done……/.

  13. Oh…and, Mike, what is the law about actually peeping into my condo? Both me and the peeper may get arrested. ROFLMAO!
