Artist from Edmonds’ Cole Gallery seeks stolen jewelry

If you come across miniature oil paintings created on pieces from a Scrabble game, Cole Gallery artist Jennifer Phillips would like to hear from you. That’s because 170 pieces of that artwork – painstakingly created during a two-month period to be sold as jewelry – was stolen from her Jeep Wranger while it was parked in Seattle last Friday.
“The value of all the items if they were to all sell at my next show is over $7,000,” said Phillips, whose work in well-known to Edmonds arts patrons. “My next show is Art in the Pearl in Portland Labor Day weekend and I will only have a fraction of the jewelry inventory to display.”
The crime happened Aug. 12 between 6:30-7 p.m. at the Seattle Good Will store off Dearborn Avenue and Rainier Street. The jewelry was inside a 12-inch-long brown imitation leather case with plaid stripes, which “almost looks like an artsy cash box,” Phillips said. The thief probably figured there was money inside and dumped it on the street when the contents were discovered, she added. Her Macbook, iPhone and small black purse were also stolen.

Phillips said she is putting together a reward, but meanwhile has placed an ad on Craig’s List in case someone has found the stolen items. Thanks so much everyone for helping me keep an eye out! … Just found out today that not one single portion of my jewelry is covered by insurance. It is tragic~
