Go the Second Mile, a local nonprofit organization that leads meaningful travel expeditions, welcomes Brian McLaren as the keynote speaker at its annual fundraiser Sept. 25 from 5:30- 8 p.m. at the Edmonds Conference Center, 201 4th Ave. N., Edmonds. An author and speaker, McLaren has published more than 20 books and passages aimed at breaking down political, ethnic and religious barriers. This will be McLaren’s only West Coast appearance in 2011.

The community is invited to attend an evening filled with live music, a cocktail hour, hors d’oeuvres and McLaren’s keynote message, which challenges the audience to think deeper about global issues. All proceeds will benefit the ongoing work and programs of Go the Second Mile.

Go the Second Mile advocates for children, women and families who are victims of poverty and injustice. They lead teams to serve in remote areas of the world, and take a grass-roots approach to work alongside established community organizations in order to implement projects and programs that matter most within each community.

Individual tickets are $40, or a table of eight is $300. For ticket registration visit www.go2ndmile.org, call 206-730-1319 or email info@go2ndmile.org.
