Edmonds Daybreakers Rotary Club President Dennis Johnson gives a check to Annie Fortnum.

Edmonds Daybreakers Rotary Club at its meeting last week presented a donation to Annie Fortnum, founder of Annie’s Kitchen, a weekly community dinner served from 5-6:30 p.m. each Wednesday at the Edmonds Lutheran Church fellowship hall.

Everyone is invited — the hungry, homeless, lonely, neighbors, families, church folks, folks from other churches — and  150 people share a meal on any given Wednesday evening. The kitchen crew of volunteers start prepping about noon, with various shifts of workers coming and going throughout the day — cooking, chopping, peeling, tossing — until a hot, home-cooked, nutritious and hearty meal is ready. The tables are set, the milk is poured. The guests arrive, and all are fed. There is also a children’s play, crafts, and homework area.
