Monroe spoiled Edmonds-Woodway’s 2011-12 football debut Friday, coming away with a 30-24 win over the Warriors in 4A high school football action at Edmonds Stadium.

The Warriors got on the scoreboard first with a 25-yard field goal followed by a safety that put them up 5-0 at the end of the first, but Monroe had a burst of second-quarter offense that resulted in four touchdowns and a 28-11 lead at halftime.

Three of the Bearcats’ second-period touchdowns were scored by senior running back Jordan Moore, who had 123 yards on the night. Wide receiver Spiral Horn added a TD on a spectacular 90-yard kickoff return in the second quarter and had another touchdown catch in the fourth, but the Warriors were unable to catch the Bearcats.

The next opponent for Edmonds-Woodway is Marysville-Pilchuck, which lost to Jackson 16-14 Friday night. The game starts at 7 p.m. and can be heard on Warrior Radio, presented by My Edmonds News and sponsored by Edmonds Community College.
