My Edmonds Food: Main Street Burgers ready to roll — just in time for car show

Main Street Burgers owner Joe Bellingham grew up working in the Edmonds Bakery next door.
The restaurant features an old-fashioned soda fountain.

Joe Bellingham is all smiles. Since he was eight years old, he has helped his parents sell bread, buns and cookies at the Edmonds Bakery. Now he is serving up those same buns, this time holding freshly ground beef and all the toppings, in his own business next door — Main Street Burgers.

The decor is retro cool and so is the service. “We’re having fun here!” grinned Bellingham, giving a thumbs up while he posed near the checkerboard wall menu and images of Betty Boop and Marilyn Monroe. Thursday was Main Street Burger’s soft opening, “we are working out any glitches today,” Bellingham said, and they will be ready for their Grand Opening Saturday, Sept. 10, just in time for the Sept. 11 Edmonds Classic Car Show, a perfect event for introducing this new vintage-inspired diner.

The menu focuses on classic burger joint fare including hamburgers that Bellingham himself grinds fresh every day and grills to order, a variety of hand-cut seasoned fries and hand-dipped milkshakes. Vegetarians should not despair though. When asked about his menu favorite, Bellingham pointed to the vegetarian burger and says he likes it served with American cheese. A burger joint owner who doesn’t eat meat? No, he says, he likes beef, but he loves a good veggie burger.

A business owner with a big grin and a hands on approach is a good sign for great meals to come. I will be sure to stop in again soon and this time I may need to try that veggie burger.

  1. Good luck Joe. I think those burgers will prove to be worth the wait. I have a hunch a good Main Street burger will be my edible welcome home upon my return from my current trip. Edmonds has a fun new eatery. Hooray!

  2. It’s about time something new went in down there…too bad it closes so early on Friday and Saturday. Oh well, Dick’s will be open soon and they stay open till 1:00. How fun for us…two burger places!!!
