The Edmonds Planning Board will continue its public hearing on suggested names for the new park being built at Old Milltown to its Jan. 11, 2011 meeting.
According to information provided to My Edmonds News Friday, the board held a public hearing at its Dec. 14 meeting to consider proposals (including 43 suggested names from the community) for naming the park under construction downtown on 5th Avenue and Maple Street in the Old Milltown area. After taking public testimony, input from the Hazel Miller Foundation related to its grant toward the costs of park construction, and a lengthy discussion, the Board decided to continue the public hearing to its next meeting, Jan. 11.
Board members wanted to review additional material regarding the past history of the location and garden and to provide additional opportunity for public comment prior to concluding its deliberations, the Planning Board said. It expects to forward its recommendation to City Council for a final decision in January.
Also during the Dec. 14 meeting, the Board also continued discussion of the City of Edmonds Shoreline Management Program (SMP), including updates from the Port of Edmonds and the Friends of the Edmonds Marsh on its activities relevant to details in the SMP.
