Edmonds-area fire calls, week of Dec. 29-Jan. 4

Snohomish County Fire District 1 responded to 324 calls the week of Dec. 29 through Jan. 4: 251 emergency medical aid calls, 25 motor vehicle collisions, 22 fires, 13 service calls, 2 natural gas leaks, 1 technical rescue and 10 automatic fire alarms. The following calls were in or near Edmonds:

Dec. 29
APARTMENT FIRE:  At 10:16 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire at an apartment in the 7400 block of 208th Street Southwest in Edmonds.  A woman and her 2-year-old daughter escaped unharmed from the burning apartment. The fire was caused by oil left cooking unattended on a stovetop. Damage is estimated at $80,000. The second-floor apartment where the fire started was heavily damaged. A first-floor unit sustained water damage. The Red Cross is assisting the seven displaced residents from the two apartments.

COLLISION:  At 11:54 a.m., a car struck a parked vehicle near the intersection of 156th Street Southwest and 35th Avenue West north of Lynnwood.  Firefighters transported the driver to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

Dec. 31
BOAT FIRE:  At 3:53 a.m., a boat fire was reported at the marina in the 300 block of Admiral Way in Edmonds.  Two 50-foot motor yachts were destroyed and damage is estimated at more than $600,000.  No one was aboard the burning boats, but two people aboard a neighboring boat were transported by firefighters to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital to be treated for minor smoke inhalation.

Jan. 2
BOAT FIRE:  At 7:32 a.m., firefighters were called to extinguish a smoldering fire that flared up in one of the two boats involved in the New Year’s Eve fire at the Edmonds Marina. The yacht had been pulled from the water and placed in a storage yard in the 300 block of Admiral Way. The fire flared up again at 10:51 a.m. and firefighters had to cut a hole in the hull to reach the persistent hot spot. They also removed a burning mattress from the boat.

Jan. 3
COLLISION:  At 10:19 a.m., one person was injured in a hit-and-run collision on 164th Street Southwest at I-5 north of  Lynnwood. Firefighters transported the driver to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

Jan. 4
COLLISION:  At 1:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a one-car, rollover collision on I-5 south of 164th Street Southwest and transported two patients to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.

ELECTRICAL FIRE:  At 1:42 p.m., a fire was reported on the roof of an apartment building in the 300 block of 4th Avenue North in Edmonds. Firefighters quickly extinguished the small electrical fire. Damage is estimated at $25,000. The residents of three apartment units were temporarily displaced until the electrical system could be repaired.  No injuries were reported.

COLLISION:  At 12:38 a.m., firefighters responded to a one-car rollover collision in the parking lot of Swedish/Edmonds Hospital. The car had been stolen and was being pursued by law enforcement officers when the collision occurred. It took firefighters 15 minutes to free the driver from the wreckage. Medics transported the seriously injured man to Harborview Medical Center.
