Edmonds Port Commission meeting report for Monday, Nov. 26

The Edmonds Port Commission took the following actions at a special meeting Monday night:

•   Heard a report on the Fall 2012 meeting of the Pacific Coast Conference of Harbormasters and Port Managers held at Winchester Bay, Oregon, on October 10-12.

•   Approved a policy change allowing recreational vehicle storage in an underutilized area of Port property. When spaces are available, they will be advertised to the public.

•   Reviewed marina cost centers and operations expenses in preparation for further discussion in January 2013.

The commission’s next meeting will be a workshop at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, in the Port Commission meeting room. Scheduled agenda items included election of commission officers for 2013 and a workshop discussion on the Harbor Square master plan. This will be the last regular meeting of calendar year 2012.

Great to see some details of the meeting – your report on the last meeting was very short in light of the budget approvals particularly the difficult Commission decision to increase the marina moorage rates by 5.25%.

In 2013 Port staff and Commission discussions and decisions independent of the Harbor Square development proposal will affect important aspects of the Port’s waterfront assets in the coming decade. Detailed reporting of Commission actions will enhance public understanding of the issues and develop support for difficult decisions.

It is refreshing to hear from someone with knowledge and Port experience who is concerned about the Edmonds Marina. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future with further comments.
