A bright idea for supporting upcoming high school auction — lighted tennis courts, anyone?

Ever wish that Edmonds had public tennis courts that were lighted for community evening or early morning play? Long-time Edmonds-Woodway High School tennis coach Dan Crist has that vision, and here’s one easy way that the public can help — by supporting the upcoming EWHS fundraising auction, set for Saturday, March 16 at the Lynnwood Convention Center.

EW LogoAll money raised from the auction — which benefits both the high school’s Athletic Booster Club and the Parent Staff Organization — goes toward participating groups that have solicited auction items. Crist said he has been setting aside all money raised by the boys and girls tennis teams for the past several years in hopes that he will eventually be able to get the Edmonds School District and the City of Edmonds to provide matching funds to install the lights on the high school’s tennis courts — a project that he estimates will cost $30,000.

“There are no other outside lit courts in the city of Edmonds, and the community does come here to play,” Crist said. “I like the idea of the tie between the school district and the community.”

Not a tennis player? There are many other high school organizations that will benefit from your support, whether it’s a specific sports team, music group or other EWHS club or organization.

Everyone in the community is invited to attend the March 16 “Reaching for the Stars” auction.  You can also donate an item for bid, which can range from experiences (offer a fishing trip on your boat, for example, or a monthly delivery of homemade soup) to airline miles to hotel stays to sports tickets. Gift certificates and gift cards are also welcome.

Procurement forms are available here for your donations. The deadline for donating items is Feb. 27. To learn more, contact Chris Thuesen at 425-772-0791 or email christhuesen@frontier.net.

If you are interested in attending, cost is $60 per ticket or you can sponsor a table of 10 for only $550. You can find the link to the reservations form here.
