Seen in Edmonds: A schooner with a history lesson

LeRoy Van Hee was visiting Marina Beach Park Wednesday when he saw this odd-looking sailboat pass by. Van Hee’s online research revealed that the 67-foot schooner, The Archangel, was once owned by Sir Peter Blake of New Zealand, and served as his command and control boat during New Zealand’s 2000 successful defense of the America’s Cup. “As you may know, Sir Peter Blake was murdered by pirates in the Amazon River, Dec 2001,” Van Hee noted, adding that he was unable to determine why the boat was in Puget Sound.
