Harbor Square redux Tuesday as City Council set to discuss revised plan

Expect a lively discussion at the Edmonds City Council meeting Tuesday night, as councilmembers continues their discussion on the Port of Edmonds request to incorporate the Harbor Square Master Plan into the City’s Comprehensive Plan.

While not a proposal for an actual project on the current Harbor Square Business Complex site, council incorporation of the master plan into the city’s plan is a necessary first step toward redeveloping the aging 14.62-acre complex. The current site includes the Harbor Square Athletic Club and Tennis Center, the Harbor Inn hotel and numerous businesses located among five buildings on the site.

The council on Feb. 5 rejected by a 3-4 vote Edmonds City Council President Lora Petso’s proposal to turn down the Port’s plan. Instead, the port’s concept was sent to city staff for modifications based on council input, with the goal of bringing it back to councilmembers for their review.

Other items of note on the agenda:

- A public hearing on a proposed ordinance authorizing the acquisition of property needed for the Five Corners Roundabout Project.

- A report on City Council committee meetings.

You can view the entire agenda here. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers, located in the Public Safety Complex at 250 5th Ave. N.

Thank goodness we got a federal grant to do the 5-corners project so we can also spend city funds on this extremely important project.
