The Edmonds-based Miss Peters and May unlimited hydroplane took third place in the Gold Cup in Detroit.

Owners Scott and Shannon Raney were ecstatic after the final heat. “We have been fighting a terrible string of luck and for once it shined our way,” Shannon Raney told My Edmonds News.

Driver Tom Thompson continued his string of consistent heat finishes on Sunday, finishing third in all three heats he ran.

The race was won by Kip Brown in the Spirit of Qatar, followed by Jon Zimmerman in the Red Dot. Next was our local hydro and then Steve David in the Oh Boy! Oberto and Jimmy Shane driving the Graham Trucking.

David made a recovery from his poor running on Saturday, winning both his preliminary heats on Sunday prior to the final. He was the point leader going into the final but then was penalized for cutting off Shane in the final heat. This caused Shane’s boat to run through his roostertail and lose power and incurred a one-llap penalty for David.

The race for first then fell to Brown and Zimmerman, with Zimmerman having superior top speed but Brown being able to handle the corners better. They battled side by side until the end.

The hydros’ next race is in two weeks in the Tri-Cities, and we will have all the action here.
