Aug. 27 ceremony to provide military honors for deceased veterans

On Aug. 27, the Washington State National Guard Funeral Honors Team will conduct a ceremony at Edmonds Cemetery to provide Burial Honors for deceased veterans who at the time of their death did not receive them.

The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at the cemetery, located at 820 15th St. S.W., and will include a flag-folding ceremony and the playing of Taps.The flag is presented to surviving family members. A 21-gun salute will also occur, courtesy of the the VFW Post #1040 Honor Guard.

More than 150 deceased veterans who lived in Snohomish County are eligible to receive military honors. Surviving family members who would like to inquire about their eligibility and/or request such honors should contact Sgt. Chris Edwards at 206-940-7865.Eligibility is easily determined via a copy of the deceased veteran’s discharge papers (DD214).
