Free microchipping for Snohomish County dogs and cats in Everett Saturday

Snohomish County resident dogs and cats brought to the City of Everett Mutt Strut between 10 a.m. and noon this Saturday, Aug. 10 can receive a free microchip. Up to 200 free microchips will be offered at this event at Langus Park, located at 400 Smith Island Road, across from the Everett Animal Shelter.

Cats must be in a carrier and dogs must be on a leash. This program is available to Snohomish County residents only.

This is the 14th free microchip clinic sponsored by the Snohomish County Animal Advisory Board in conjunction with the County Auditor’s Licensing & Animal Services Division. Support is provided by volunteer veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

“The goal of this program is to reduce shelter costs by returning lost and stray pets directly to their owners and promote responsible pet ownership”, said Carolyn Weikel, Snohomish County Auditor. “We want to thank the City of Everett Parks Department and the Everett Animal Shelter for providing the space for this event”.

The cost of providing animal shelter services impacts local governments. The most effective way to reduce sheltering costs is to reduce the number of lost and stray animals brought to shelters. Lost pets with license tags and microchips are reunited faster with their owners reducing the number of pets that end up in local shelters annually.

The cost of the microchips is funded by the County’s Animal Benefit Bequest Fund. The fund was established in 1999 to support programs, activities, equipment and/or facilities for the benefit of animals in Snohomish County. Resources for this fund are gathered from donations, gifts, and bequests by persons, businesses and organizations. Donations may be sent to Snohomish County Auditor – Animal Benefit Bequest Fund – 3000 Rockefeller Ave., MS 306, Everett, WA 98201.

“This event is for dogs only. No pre-registration necessary – just show up with your dog. Dogs should be properly leashed (no extendo leashes please) and be able to stand in a line with other dogs. In other words – should be dog and people friendly!”
