Local residents assisting with annual ‘Evening of Wine’ fundraiser for diabetes research

Several local residents are leading efforts for the 10th anniversary of the “An Evening of Wine” auction and dinner benefiting the Pacific Northwest Diabetes Research Institute. This year’s event is Friday, Sept. 6 in Seattle.

Woodway resident Lynn Kern is the chairperson of this year’s auction, serving with auction committee members Dan Caldwell, a PNDRI Board of Trustees member from Edmonds, and Ardythe Johnson, board vice chair and another auction committee member, also from Woodway.

Edmonds resident Jack Faris is the institute’s former CEO and continues to be very active at the organization, Kern said.

This year’s event, to be held at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel, features nine Washington wineries, a wine-tasting reception, silent and live auctions, a Name That Wine game and a four-course meal with red and white wine.  Wine partners are Boudreaux Cellars, Côte Bonneville, Dunham Cellars, Gård Vintners, O S Winery, Reininger Winery, Saviah Cellars, Sheridan Vineyard and Va Piano Vineyards.

Local wine expert, sommelier and recent creator of ImpulseWine.com, Yashar Shayan will act as emcee for the night. Mark Schenfeld will lead the live auction, during which guests will be able to bid on items including wine-tasting weekends in Walla Walla, vacations in Dubai and Mexico, dinner and accommodations at award-winning hotels and restaurants, and a seven day cruise for two.
