Edmonds police shoot man carrying rifle on Puget Drive Saturday morning

Everett Police Public Information Officer Aaron Snell provided an update for reporters. We’ll have the video of that entire exchange soon, but meanwhile, it was reported that the man shot was 27 years old and from Edmonds.
The Snohomish Multi Agency Response Team, known as S.M.A.R.T., is investigating at the scene.

John Kvernenes, owner of John’s Barbershop, located near the shooting scene, said he was driving to work when he saw the man walking eastbound on Puget Drive. He noticed police in the area and then heard gunshots, but didn’t see what happened, he said.
Note that the Edmonds Elementary playfield is shut down with crime tape. Police Chief Compaan says that’s because there may be evidence, including shell casings, in the area.

Witnesses near the scene of the shooting reported hearing gunshots at around 7:30 a.m., including Maria, who did not want her last name used, behind the counter at Olympic View Deli. “I was making the coffee when I heard…the gunshots,” she said.
A man on foot carrying a rifle was shot by police on Puget Drive in Edmonds around 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Olympic View Drive at Puget Drive, next to the Edmonds Elementary School playfield, is blocked off and cars are being rerouted.
Edmonds Police Chief Al Compaan told us that they received citizen reports of a man walking along Puget Drive carrying a rifle. Officers attempted to contact the man and told him to drop the weapon and he was shot after he refused to do so, Compaan added.
