Unbeaten Warriors on the road against Kamiak Friday
Edmonds-Woodway puts its undefeated season on the line Friday night as the Warriors travel to Goddard stadium in Everett to face the once-beaten Kamiak Knights in a battle of Wesco South league leaders. The Warriors and Knights both stand at 2-0 in league and the victor in this game is the likely winner of the leagues regular season title.
The Warriors have used a combination of a stiff defense and the one-two running punch of Junior Opoku-Mensu and Mac Mclachlan. Opoku-Mensah is leading the league in rushing and McLachlan is also among the leaders. The Warriors are averaging over 250 yards a game on the ground including almost 400 gained against Jackson. Davis Giles has been a steady senior leader at quarterback, helped by a veteran offensive line and the capable hands of Theo Lebesis and Scotty Myricks. The defense has been holding opponents to an average of only 11 points a game.
The Knights’ only loss came in week two — a 19-14 defeat at the hands of Meadowdale. The Warriors barely got by the Mavs themselves, winning 20-14 in double-overtime. Senior running back Austin Hall returned to the Kamiak lineup last week after having missed two games with an injury and ran for 239 yards in the Knights’ victory over Jackson.
Kickoff for the game is 7 p.m. at Goddard, located at Mariner High School in south Everett. Look for complete coverage of the game on My Edmonds News after the game.
