Boys swim preview: Several key performers returning to young Warriors’ team

warrior logoThe Edmonds-Woodway boys swim team is coached for the eighth year by Kate Trettevik. Trettevik’s team of 25 returns several key performers from last year’s 7-4 squad including Alex Nguyenle, Max Takacs, Brandon Chen and Ryan Pham. Top newcomers according to Trettevik are Joel Hashimoto and Kyle Aitken.

Trettevik says the Warriors’ strength is that the swimmers are very hardworking and are good at pushing themselves to get better. Depth, she says, is an area of concern as the other schools — including perennial power Kamiak and contenders Jackson and Cascade — have much bigger squads.

This year’s team is young, with only three seniors on the roster, but Trettevik sees this as a positive: “They will continue to grow and improve in their strengths and capabilities in the coming years,” she said. Home meets are held at Lynnwood Rec Center, most starting at 2:30 p.m.. Here’s  their schedule:

Dec. 10 @Jackson

Dec. 12 vs Kamiak and Monroe

Dec.17 @ Everett

Jan. 9 vs Stanwood

Jan. 16 @ Shorewood

Jan. 23 Shorecrest

Jan. 28 Mariner

Jan. 30 vs Lynnwood and Meadowdale

Feb. 1 Edmonds District Meet (EWHS hosts)
