Warriors open Bothell Holiday Classic on high note, with 60-28 win over Highline

warrior logoThe Edmonds-Woodway boys basketball team opened the Bothell Holiday Classic tournament with a convincing 60-28 win over the Highline Pirates on Friday night.

The Warriors jumped on the Pirates right from the get-go, racing to a quick 16-4 lead, with senior wing Jason Smarr scoring 15 of the points. The period ended with E-W up 16-8.The second quarter also went the Warriors way, as they found Travis Bakken for a pair of baskets along with buckets by Jordan Rice, Brady Edwards, Tate Budnick and a dunk by Smarr. At half-time, E-W had extended the lead to 28-14.

The third quarter saw the Warriors stay on the throttle, outscoring the Pirates 13-4 in extending the lead to 41-18. With the game comfortably in hand, E-W used the fourth quarter to get more players involved, including the varsity debut of Chuckwuma Okereke. Okereke scored eight points in the final frame to go along with Theo Lebesis’s six, helping E-W finish with a final 32-point victory margin.

Next up for the Warriors is a winners bracket game Saturday at 8:30 p.m. against tournament host Bothell.
