Looking to achieve overall fitness in 2014? Bodyworks Pilates in Edmonds owner Shar Kellett suggests taking classes at her studio. Recently she provided an update on her program:

“I am the owner/instructor of Bodyworks Pilates in Edmonds. I have been operating my business in Edmonds for going on 6 years. In that time, I have had the pleasure of working with many locals, a lot of them seniors. Pilates offers so much to so many. It is not just a great way to provide strength, flexibility, and stamina, but because, we offer private only sessions, we can structure each session to the individual in a gentle, controlled environment. The studio provides a warm and intimate setting, and the instructors are certified Pilates trainers with a vast knowledge of body mechanics and restrictions, such as injuries, rehab, physical/mental limitations. I have found that with most of my clients, Pilates has provided not only physical improvements, but mental improvements, as well. When you feel stronger in your body, you feel stronger in your mind.

“I have been into fitness for about 35 years and have been involved with Pilates for about 18 years, starting out as a student and really seeing and feeling the difference Pilates made in my body and my mind. It is a mind/body program….slow, precise movements and mindful breathing. It can be as gentle or as physical as the client needs or wants. I don’t think people are aware that Pilates is more than just an exercise program. My oldest client is 80 (which I love) and I have a client with MS who has seen a ton of improvement since she began with me 5 years ago.”
