Wrestlers at Edmonds-Woodway High School began the evening Wednesday celebrating teachers and finished the evening celebrating a victory over Wesco South rival Cascade. The Warriors took the lead early in the meet, after a major decision by Spencer Schultz and two Cascade forfeits, and never looked back.
The 113 lb match-up between Warrior Sidat Kanyi and Bruin Niami Lee provided one of the more exciting matches of the night. Each grappler scored a takedown and escape in the first period, knotting the score at three. The second period ended with the score tied at five. Kanyi had his choice in the third and chose to start in the down position. Exploding off the whistle, Kanyi scored an escape and takedown to earn a three-point lead. The action remained furious through the third with Sidat Kanyi winning 10-7.
Edmonds-Woodway moves to 2-0 in conference and 4-1 overall. Cascade is 0-2 and 2-3. The Warriors return home Tuesday, Jan. 21 when Stanwood visits the Warrior Wrestling Pit for a non-conference match-up.
