Updated with information from the medical examiner.

Edmonds police have confirmed that the body discovered on the beach just south of the Edmonds ferry dock Feb. 21 was that of an 83-year-old man who lived in downtown Edmonds. The Snohomish County Medical Examiners Office said man drowned and ruled the death was a suicide.

Edmonds police received a call at 8:50 a.m. Feb. 21 that a passerby had spotted the man — fully clothed except for his shoes — floating face down just off the shoreline of Olympic Beach Park in Edmonds.  Edmonds Police and Fire District 1 personnel responded to the scene and brought the man to the beach where they started administering CPR, but resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.
