Free income tax preparation assistance available on Tuesday at Edmonds Community College

EdmondsCC_Logo_125Edmonds Community College offers free income tax return preparation and e-filing on a drop-in basis to low-income U.S. citizens and residents from 2-5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18 in Mountlake Terace building, Room 212.

Additional dates are as follows:

  • Feb. 18-March 20, 2-5:30 p.m., Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (No tax clinic on Fri., March 21)
  • April 8-11, 2-5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday

This service is sponsored by an IRS program called, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). Volunteers are taught using IRS training guidelines and are IRS certified to provide confidential tax preparation to qualified taxpayers. Last year, Edmonds Community College helped more than 500 campus and community members file their tax returns. Assistance in several languages will be available.

To get help from VITA, the taxpayer cannot have any of the following:

No income from:

  • International student homestay
  • Rental property
  • Partnerships
  • Estates or trusts
  • Farms
  • Sale of stocks
  • Self-employed merchandisers
  • Self-employed businesses that depreciate property
  • No deductions from:
  • Home office
  • Second/vacation homes
  • Moving expenses

You will need to bring:

A copy of last year’s tax return (if available), picture ID, social security cards for all family members, W-2 forms, 1099 and 1098 forms, unemployment compensation statements, child care expenses (including provider name, address and employer number), information for college expenses and a list of other income and expenses. Tax forms will be provided.
