Meadowdale’s Flynn and two relays advance to state 3A swim meet; E-W sending two to 4A contest

Meadowdale’s Chris Flynn qualified for two individual events and the Mavericks also advanced two relays to this week’s Class 3A state swimming championships.

Flynn finished second in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly at 3A Northwest District 1 championships Saturday at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

Meadowdale’s 200 medley relay team took second and its 400 freestyle relay team placed third. Jordan Phipps qualified for the 100 breaststroke.

In the 4A competition, meanwhile, Edmonds-Woodway is sending two swimmers to the state meet after they qualified during last Saturday’s district championships: The Warriors’ Alex Nguyenle finished first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.70, and also took first in the 100 butterfly at 54.46. E-W’s Max Takacs took third in the 100 butterfly at 56.15, also earning a berth to state.

The 3A and 4A state meets are scheduled for Feb. 21-22 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way. Prelims for the 3A are 6:15 p.m. Friday with finals at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Prelims for the 4A are 9:45 a.m. Friday with the finals at 10 a.m. Saturday.
