An adult man died on the scene after being stabbed in the Edmonds Westgate QFC parking lot Friday morning.

Edmonds police spokesman Assistant Chief Jim Lawless said police were called to the parking lot at 5:55 a.m. for a report of a disturbance. While on route, they also received a report of a vehicle — a white Cadillac — fleeing the scene.

When police arrived at the QFC, located at 22828 100th Ave. W., they found the man who had been stabbed. Police found the Cadillac nearby, in the area of 15th Street Southwest and 8th Place South, Lawless said.

The man in the vehicle had also been stabbed. He was treated at Swedish/Edmonds and then released to police custody, Lawless said. The woman in the vehicle was uninjured and is also in custody. Police have no reason to believe that any additional suspects are at large, he added. Lawless said it isn’t known if any of the people involved in the incident were from Edmonds.

The north end of the QFC parking lot is closed, as is the area of 15th Avenue and 8th Place where the vehicle was stopped, while police investigate the crime scene.

Numerous witnesses, as well as the two in-custody suspects, have been interviewed in connection with this investigation.  At this point it appears that all of the involved parties were known to one another and are accounted for and no other individuals were involved in the altercation.

Both suspects will be booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of 2nd Degree Murder and 1st Degree Robbery. No further suspect information will be released at this time and the identity of the deceased will be released by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office per their protocol.

The investigation is continuing with no additional information at this time.

  1. What is it with supermarket parking lots around here? The Safeway up on 238th and 99 is a frequent location of all sorts of shenanigans.

  2. Hwy 99 is in Edmonds and the local Police are quite aware of what goes on and where the crazies live. Much is being done to curb the activity centered @ a few motels and from folks driving into the area.

  3. Speaking of ALL we can do for the “revenue” we need for the city of Edmonds………I would love to see a cost (and I mean that literally also) analysis …….seems like someone is always talking, “it’s business” around here……Yes, but at what cost?!…….Highway 99 is what it has always been……..99……and all that has gone on there and the immediate surrounding areas FOREVER. If the city of Seattle (I’m from there) hasn’t been able to FIX it in the 50-60 years that I know of, why would a little town like Edmonds, population of 40,000 be able to fix it……Just a lot of private parties making money on development, real estate, grants, etc now. …….with nothing fixed and nothing really gained that I’ve seen in the past 30+ years. We don’t even have the police power here in Edmonds to monitor this area for the families that live there and close by. These aren’t just “crazies” that live/do their business along 99…….a whole lot of people with mental health issues, drug/alcohol addiction issues, poverty issues, etc. …..calling it all “crud” and “crazies” doesn’t help…..

  4. I can’t believe this happened right down the street…I lived in Lynnwood off 99 for 13 years and never heard of someone getting stabbed at our QFC…I moved to Edmonds about 8 mo ago and I thought Edmonds was safe from this.

  5. Tere, I’ve lived near the 99 for 18 years and things have improved. If interested I can talk with you about how that has happened, what plans are in play to improve the Hwy and surrounding neighborhoods. Something must be working that the Highway provides 80% of the City’s tax revenues. And I know our neighborhood has been active for years to improve our situation and control what ‘problems’ we had.

  6. Yes this stuff happens, but did you see the immediate action by our first responder’s. I am so happy to live in Edmonds.
They can’t always be everywhere to prevent this kind of thing from happening but the response is immediate and usually overwhelming. Hooray for our Police, fire and emergency services people.

  7. Well, my niece and her family moved to Five Corners just a few months ago, and a dead body was floating in a lake not too far from where her and her family live. ……..

The close proximity to the highway is what it has always been, same for Seattle. …….just building and developing NEW buildings/businesses (that revenue thing, Mr. Wambolt keeps referring to that you guys think solves everything), does not clean up and get to the root of what goes on there on 99. As in Seattle, it gets worse when areas are developed and people are also displaced…….South Lake Union and what happened after Belltown development being an excellent example of the drug/vice culture that has taken over there. The drug and vice culture rules on 99 as always. Even down on 185th there are all those new developed buildings and what goes on there is not at all unlike what goes on at 105th 99 in Seattle. It is well known that there are many drug houses at Five Corners…..

    1. Ms Ryder, You mention in your post “It is well known that there are many drug houses at Five Corners…..” If this is so well known are you suggesting our police are not aware or if they are aware not doing anything about it? Or what are you suggesting with that comment?

  8. I’m glad that all the parties involved were known to each other and this wasn’t a random thing. As bad as this is, it’d be worse if the victim was out for a morning jog or something like that.

  9. True this stuff happens anywhere but is rare for Edmonds. As for HWY99, it really isn’t getting better, but only worse. We are right in the middle of Everett and Seattle, and an increase in crime is bound to creep in. Lynnwood is getting just as drug infested as Everett in my opinion. Drug houses as mentioned near 5 corners are not exactly that, even though it may appear that way. Drug dealers aren’t exactly moving into Edmonds, but rather drug dealers are delivering drugs to folks who live in Edmonds. It doesn’t matter where on earth you go, drugs are going to be present. Sad but true, drug users come in all shape and form, from grocery store clerks, dentists, to attorneys.

  10. Brandon I am sorry for your loss. Send my condolences to his family as well. Often times those of us not directly affected forget that someone lost a son, friend, brother, grandson or nephew. While I was at work while I was touched by our customers concern for the QFC workers I was saddened to hear the comments about a complete stranger…. none of us really know at this point what happened. All we know is 3 families are hurting.

  11. Drug deal gone bad. Stay the hell out of edmonds. I’m sick of watching our town being invaded by these scumbags. It time we do something about this…
