Westgate Elementary invites community to leadership assembly Thursday

Westgate Elementary School is inviting the Edmonds community to attend the school’s First Annual Leadership Day this Thursday, March 27 from 9 to 11 a.m. The day will include a leadership assembly followed by a student showcase.

Since last June, Westgate teachers and students have been working on an integrated approach to leadership development known as the Leader in Me, based on Stephen Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People.” According to the school’s website: “Developing a culture of leadership in our schools is about helping children be leaders of their own lives, it helps them identify their own unique talents and abilities and encourages them to make a positive difference in the world.”

“Developing a culture of leadership in our schools is about helping children be leaders of their own lives, it helps them identify their own unique talents and abilities and encourages them to make a positive difference in the world,” the website notes.

According to the school, the Leader in Me model emphasizes skills that help students become leaders in their own lives.  It has been shown to increase academic performance, decrease disciplinary issues, and equip students with self-confidence and essential life skills.

You can learn more at the school’s Leader in Me web page. Westgate Elementary is located at 9601 220th St. S.W., Edmonds.
