From Larry Vogel: All the photo equipment in the world won't get you a view of Puget Sound when a coal train passes through Edmonds. This Sunset Avenue photographer was trying for some good wildlife images when he was interrupted Tuesday afternoon by one of the increasing number of coal trains blocking physical and visual access to the waterfront.

  1. Whatever your feelings about coal, it is difficult to get photographs through any of the other sorts of trains that pass through Edmonds as well.

  2. The location is the city park above the tracks along the west side of Sunset Ave. Out of sight directly behind the photographer is a park bench where I had laid my camera. While he may technically be on BNSF property, it is impossible to distinguish where the park ends and the railroad’s property begins. Issues of the property line and BNSF’s future plans for their property have been raised in the discussions about the proposed Sunset Ave. walkway.
