Brooks, Petriello take first in state high school music contest

Kyle Brooks from Edmonds-Woodway High School and Ryan Petriello from Meadowdale High School took first place at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) and Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA) Solo/Ensemble Contest held in Ellensburg.

Brooks took first place in tenor sax solo and Petriello in string bass solo. Also winning for the Edmonds School District was Lucy Schermer, who took home first place in flute solo.

The three were among the more than 2,700 high school musicians competing at the state event in late April.
