Six teams competed in this year’s “Iron Maverick Culinary Competition” held on April 23. Head Chef Jack Stutz won the Meadowdale Cook-off for the second time. He was assisted by Sous Chef Tyler Baker. They won with their Tricolora appetizer and Fettuccine Alfredo, even making their pasta from scratch. Other competitors included
Kylie Powers and Cierra Luberts; Serena Nelson and DeeDee Free; Elizabeth Edwards and Lauren Prasanna. Due to a sports team conflict, Jack and Tyler were unable to compete in the district competition finals, so our runner-up team of Chef Sarah Hill and Sous Chef Kindra Martin advanced to compete in the “Edmonds Iron Chef” contest at Edmonds Community College Culinary Kitchen, and they won first place. Judges noted both excellent flavor and
presentation as stand-out features. We are very proud of them, and look forward to seeing them in future competitions. We would also like to thank the judges: Bev Anderson, retired Shoreline District Culinary Instructor; Chuck Geddes, owner Sparta’s Restaurant; and Bruce Thomas, kitchen manager for Merrill Gardens.
